Angligreen Climate Change/ Carbon Emissions Reduction 2nd get-together

Transition The Grove Banner
To view this message on-line please {readonline}Click here.{/readonline}.

Dear {usertag:name}

Sunday 27th November 10:30am All Saints Anglican Church Cobbity Crescent Ferny Hills under the auspices of Angligreen.

Angligreen held a ‘Say Yes’ morning tea last month with a group discussion about the carbon tax and climate change.

The fifteen people present all participated in a lively discussion not all agreeing but it was an informative and respectful sharing and learning from each other.

At the end the discussion seemed to have a lot more energy to keep going so the group agreed to hold further discussions on this general topic.

This second discussion meeting will be held after the morning church service at All Saints around 10:30am. Ann Ellis of Angligreen will lead the group.

Anyone who wants to come along and join in the discussion is most welcome. Talking together is a great way to clarify and come to terms with some otherwise challenging topics.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Anne

ATA Meeting – Queensland’s Electricity Generation Options

This month’s speaker is Damian Shaw-Williams a consultant with CS Energy. CS Energy is a Queensland Government owned energy provider. For this presentation Damian will talk about Queensland’s electricity generation options current and projected with a particular focus on renewable energy options. His talk will include a discussion of the Solar Dawn Project a proposed 250 megawatt solar thermal gas hybrid power plant to be built near Chinchilla in South West Queensland as well as solar boosting of the Kogan Creek coal fired power station. Meeting participants will also be able to discuss with Damian other possibilities for renewable energy generation in Queensland and are encouraged to ask questions.

This subject is very topical considering the present issues with climbing energy costs and the availability of reliable energy.

This will be a meeting not to be missed as there are so many questions revolving around this subject and it’s not every day we are so privileged to have someone who is working so closely with these problems. This will be a great opportunity for many of us to find out what is happening with government initiatives regarding future energy requirements for our state.

To find out more about CS Energy visit their Website at:- http://www.csenergy.com.au

When: Thursday 01/12/2011 07:15 PM – 09:30 PM
Where: Wilston State School – D Block. Inglis Street Grange 4051
Cost: $3.00
Light refreshments will be served after the meeting.

Invitation – David Collishaw – Walkabout Creek

Transition The Grove Banner
To view this message on-line please {readonline}Click here.{/readonline}.

Dear {usertag:name}

I would like to invite you to join Transition The Grove Inc.

You would be eligible to join through your role as Venue Manager at Walkabout Creek.

Transition The Grove is a not-for-profit local group aiming to build a strong sense of local community and resilience for the future in the upper Kedron Brook valley. We are part of the global Transition Towns movement.

Our neighbouring Transition Town is Transition The Gap and you would also be eligible to join it. We would like to encourage you to join both. In a sense Walkabout Creek is just inside The Gap side of the watershied that defines the boundary between the two areas (The Gap and The Grove). However the watershed/boundary of The Grove is defined by Mt Nebo Rd for a big section and we need to drive right by Walkabout Creek to get to it.

When we are taking local tourists on scenic drives around The Grove we typically take them to Walkabout Creek as part of the tour. The Enoggera Reservoir provides water for suburbs in The Grove (Upper Kedron Ferny Grove Ferny Hills Arana Hills Keperra) and the walks by it are something we are promoting for our Water Subgroup to do. Our Environment Subgroup also has every reason to be interested in what you are doing at Walkabout Creek. Our Facilities Subgroup also as you are providing our local zoo and a venue for functions and weddings. We list you on our website in a variety of places with links to your website.

As a member you would be able to add events happening at Walkabout Creek directly to our Community Calendar which we would be delighted to have you do. We would also want to see Walkabout Creek have links on our Community Forum. By participating in the Forum you would raise the visibility of Walkabout Creek locally.

There is no charge to join. The organisation is entirely voluntary.

We regard Walkabout Creek as an extremely valuable local asset and are keen to support it.

Warm regards

Anne Tennock

Dear {usertag:name}

Please welcome new member Phil Fairbanks to the Building & Construction Subgroup. Phil has a local business operating out of Keperra – PF Building Solutions. He has 10 years carpentery experience. Phil can be contacted on 0438 335 654. Phil describes himself as: Resident of Keperra. Professional carpentry service. Looking to build a better Keperra for you.

We try to list local tradespeople in the Community Directory under all applicable headings and also on the Forums for Local Businesses and we’ll put a listing for Phil under the Forum for Building and Construction. PF Building Solutions will go under Business – Find a Local Business B for building and C for Carpentry; and also under Building & Construction – Local Trades – Builders and Carpenters.

It is always a good idea to check out what details are there for any organisation you are associated with. You can always contact the Webmaster  through the Contact tab to ask for details to be updated removed changed or added to in some way.

We were sad to note the demise of the fruit and vege shop at Ferny Grove Shopping Village.

TTG – What’s Causing Australia’s Heat Wave

Dear {usertag:name}

The e-newsletter is being sent to members of The Head Subgroup.

A careful and informative analysis of the latest heatwave data in Australia.

Whats-causing-australias-heat-wave?

On a constructive note this is turning out to be the Year of Shadecloth! What remarkable stuff for creating a gentle cooling shade around the home and garden at a low cost.

Remember we need salt in hot weather along with fluid to hydrate. Have you tried misting yourself with a spray bottle on a hot day? It is pleasantly cooling.

Clean Up Australia – Report

Transition The Grove Banner
To view this message on-line please {readonline}Click here.{/readonline}.

Dear {usertag:name}

I wanted to let you know the outcome of our Clean Up Australia Day project at Leslie Patrick Park Arana Hills. The turnout exceeded our expectations and those of Moreton Bay Regional Council who provided a great deal of equipment and support. Of course those expectations would not have been exceeded without the contribution of each individual who took part.

So Thanks to those who took part!Azure Kingfisher Image

On the wildlife side one of our volunteers let us know that he spotted an Azure Kingfisher nesting by the brook. Apparently this is a good sign of a healthy waterway because these beautiful birds feed on yabbies and small fish in the water rather than lizards and insects.

If you would like to know more about Transition The Grove and the Transition Towns movement around the world we’d like to invite you to a FREE video and discussion evening featuring the movie In Transition 1.0. (View Brochure)

Where: Arana Hills Library 63 Cobbity Crescent Arana Hills
When: 7:00pm Thursday 14 April

If you would like to discuss local issues on-line add details of local events to our community calendar or join a local group of like-minded people around a shared interest like local food local health care facilities transport energy (and many others) you can register on our Community Portal website.

On the other hand if you do not want to receive any more emails from Transition the Grove please click on the unsubscribe link below.

Transition The Grove – Press Release

Press Release

To: {usertag:name}

Transition The Grove is a non-profit community group working to make our community more sustainable environmentally responsible and resilient. Our community encompasses the suburbs of Arana Hills Ferny Grove Ferny Hills Keperra and Upper Kedron.

If you are issuing a newsletter prior to the following event we would be most grateful if you could include these details.

Our Carbon Footprint

Local community group Transition the Grove is partnering with Ferny Grove State High School on a project to reduce the carbon footprint of our community. You need only look around the neighborhood to see that many residents have already installed solar panels in a move towards more sustainable energy sources. Among those who have made the move there many stories about their experience. Others are held back by uncertainty arising from a great confusion of media information marketing material and government incentives. Transition the Grove’s Energy Group invites you to join in a community discussion in which those who are considering the change to renewable energy and those who have already made the move can get together and share their insights and experiences.

The meeting will conclude with a light supper.

When: Thursday 12 May at 7:00pm (2nd Thursday each month)
Where: Ferny Grove SHS Library 26 McGinn Road Ferny Grove
Cost: FREE! Gold coin donation appreciated

Regards
