Dear {usertag:name}
This is from Wally Wight – he’s keen to get the Transport Subgroup up and running.
It is also posted to the Transport Subgroup Bulletin Board. Logging on to www.transitionthegrove.org.au and going to the Groups tab and then to Planning Groups – Transport will give you access to share with group members and get involved.
Fellow transport groupies
I would like to swap info about our various transport interests and experiences with a view to advancing an agenda of shared interest toward the Transition objectives.
Kicking off for myself - My interest in transport started when I lead a community group in Canada successfully stopping a freeway proposal (after over 40 years our position still prevails). - I am an urban and regional planner with public private and community experience. - I am foremost a pedestrian then cyclist and regular user of public transit but find the networks so skewed to car use that sometimes the options are limited (to say the least) - I am currently working in Moreton Bay Regional Council as a strategic transport planner - Having grown up in a post-peak oil community I have a long appreciation of the challenge of energy and other resource depletion - In my spare time I am the Coordinator of the Brisbane Chapter of the Association for the study of Peak Oil and Gas (ASPO Australia) - Through ASPO I have done consulting on oil depletion response made presentations on Peak Oil to conferences co-written a peer reviewed article in a National Journal with internationally renouned Prof Peter Newman and been made a Senior Adjunct Research Fellow of the Curtin University Sustainability Research Institute (CUSP) - I am keen to raise awareness of the opportunities for transition beyond peak oil and to encourage the Grove (and wider Kedron catchment) community to take steps toward a less oil-dependent future. - I would like to arrange a meeting of our Grove transport working group to share our stories and map out some things we might do and - I propose a presentation night to talk about peak oil and what it means to our Grove community. I would think it would have interest beyond the transport group with implications for energy food environment etc. I would be interested in feedback on whether that is a topic we should be engaging with the wider community on. Perhaps we share our stories within Transition the Grove and then determine the best tactic for going beyond?
- I look forward to your stories.
Best regards Wally Wight
