Community Transition - adapting to the emerging future

Archive

The Transition The Grove website has gone through many iterations over the years, from painstakingly hand-coded html through several versions of the Joomla CMS (Content Management System) and now WordPress CMS.

The old Joomla website had accumulated a great deal of content, some in the form of discrete files (e.g. .pdf documents and .mp3 audio files) and others as database entries.

The discrete files have all been easily migrated intact but the database entries (about 5000) could not be migrated directly because the data formats and structures are quite different between Joomla and WordPress. Nevertheless, all of the database entry content (text) has been migrated and is searchable, but it has not been possible for the migration process to perfectly retain the original presentation formatting, images, categorisation, dates, external links etc. Even so it was a very time-consuming and laborious process.

Restoring these entries to their original format can only be undertaken on an individual item-by-item basis. The original 5000+ entries were dated between 2010 ad 2013. While they represent an interesting archive, many will no longer be relevant. It is not justifiable to manually reformat all 5000 of them.

If you find any that should become part of the ‘live’ content on the new website, these can be recovered and reformatted individually.
