We visited Roma Street Parklands yesterday morning. They are beautiful gardens in magnificent condition at the moment.

Very inaccessible to residents of our local community.

Parking $2.50 per hour up to 2 hours during the day on weekdays.

The gardens are technically open 24 hours a day and big areas are well lit at night with BBQ areas and lawns lit up.

However most parking shuts down at night and some of the gates shut at dusk and open at dawn.

The park is very tucked away and hidden but once inside it is amazing. It is a remarkable ‘private estate garden’ for the apartment blocks that share its hidden enclosed space. Fairly inaccessible to anyone else.

This private estate is maintained by public funds.

The beautiful flower beds are replaced with new plants about every 6 weeks. To get the magnificent displays of flowers full-grown plants in flower are purchased and planted. Instant display. When their flowering ceases they are replaced.

These wonderful gardens belong to us all and are paid for by State finances. So why are they so expensive and difficult to get access to?
