Catholic social teaching reminds us that human beings are called to act as stewards safeguarding the integrity of creation. We need to change our ways of seeing the world of thinking and behaving as we accept our responsibility to protect earth’s finite natural resources. According to the principle of the universal destination of goods everyone has a right to access the goods of creation to meet their needs—our lifestyles should not make such large demands on resources that others are left in need. We should practise simplicity moderation and discipline. In the face of the consumer culture that surrounds us this is a big challenge for each one of us.
