In the March edition of Living in Brisbane it says: “There are loads of free or low-cost activities for all ages happening in a park near you.”

I’ve now gone through all the BCC’s programs and there is very little at all in the upper Kedron Brook valley for our 15000+ locals living here and all the local fitness-providing businesses.

We want to have it all happening here. By contrast with the almost exactly identical area just across Kedron Brook in Moreton Bay Regional Council there is heaps happening. Same number of people. We all pay rates just to different Councils.

I talked to one of the leaders in a local organisation last weekend at Clean Up Australia Day and they are calling this area the ‘forgotten area’ in BCC.

How do we go about getting a fair share of our rates spent on a great program of local fitness activities here in The Grove supported by Brisbane Cit Council? How do we get our local fitness instructors supported by the Council to provide these classes?

Is there a procedure to go through that we are missing? Whose responsibility is it to organise these programs?

Transition The Grove members have spoken to GOLD Program staff in BCC sent them a whole list of local possible activities and fitness providers and begged for something here. Apparently it was 5 years since we’d had stuff here.

We’re in a world where petrol prices are going up fast. Public transport around the northern region of Brisbane is poor except along the main Ferny Grove rail line. That isn’t going to give us access to activities at Chermside.
