There is an exciting development at the Bunya tip. Moreton Bay Regional Council is spending $1million this year to put in bores at the tip to collect the methane gas it emits. The work is now close to finished.

Initially the gas will be burnt off but they will measure how much is collected and the hope is that there will be enough to make it viable to use for power generation.

If there is enough gas more equipment will be put in for the power generation.

The Council put in a huge dam close to the James Drysdale Reserve to colect all the stormwater to use to water the playing fields. It might turn out to be possible to used the landfill gas to power the pumps making the whole process an outstanding environmental success story.
