Finally! Complete success!! The final step turns out to be easy but we have had the beans sitting there for at least six months wondering what to do with them.

Friend Lizzie arrived and gave us the trick.

Roast the beans in the popcorn maker.

We had an unused popcorn maker in the back of the cupboard.

Didn’t need to husk the beans which was what was stopping us in our tracks.

So we put some dried beans in the popcorn maker and let them go until they were all pretty dark. Then we poured them out into a metal dish to cool. Once cool we put them into the coffee grinder. Then we used some to make plunger coffee and everyone said it was excellent. (Our visitors are very fussy people about their food standards so that is a top recommendation!).

So it is easy.

Coffee grows like a weed here is a very attractive bush and easy to pick the beans when they are bright red berries (takes patience and time). Then ferment them in a bucket for (say) a week covered in water. Then mash them up as much as you can. Put on rubber gloves and separate out the beans from the mush. Dry the beans on an old flyscreen in the sun. Then find your popcorn maker and coffee grinder and plunger and enjoy your coffee!!
