School canteens have come quite a way towards reducing the sugar load in the foods they serve.

How about our local sports club canteens? Sport is about being fit and healthy? What about the food and drinks sold through the canteens?

When we think about Let’s All Lose 10% Of Our Excess Weight as a community we can start to recognise that this isn’t just an individual issue. It is about our community clubs and businesses who are often pushing out the stuff that is making our community dangerously obese and shortening our life expectancies.

How many places rely heavily on selling soft drinks potato crisps hot chips lollies icecream? How come we just keep tolerating this while we are having an obesity epidemic?

Cinemas are also bad for this (but we don’t have any in our community).

How come we’ve lost the art of having fun and having a tasty snack without filling ourselves up with dangerous garbage? Is it a lack of imagination? Is it laziness about sourcing supplies of products to sell that aren’t simply sugar disguised in many forms? Is it greed because there is profit is feeding the community’s sugar addiction? In the end we all lose – our health our fitness for enjoying living even our lives.
