Good leadership is an extremely valuable commodity. It makes a huge difference in our lives saves lives and helps us be resilient in crises.

Here is Noel Pearson singing the praises of our leaders in the current QLD weather crises: The Premier has done a job and a half. She is plainly very competent and the way in which she has organised her government in a time of crisis restores your faith in government. She has marshalled the large and unwieldy machinery of government to perform at a level that no Queenslander could fail to appreciate. What she has achieved has shown that a straightforward demonstration of competent leadership was the best way to position herself with the people of QLD.

Yes of course the politicians are positioning themselves in these times of public crisis and political calculations are always present but it is also their job to do what they are doing. That is what leadership and public service entails.

Facing the impending doom in far north QLD it was interesting to have two women Anna Bligh and Cairns Mayor Val Schier providing the most credible and assured leadership in the face of it.

It is plain that the leaders workers and volunteers responsible for public safety and emergency services have saved lives and done everything to minimise the impact. The season is not over but the people of Queensland their volunteers their political leaders and public authorities have done an outstanding job so far.

Also contrast it with the leadership in countries like Tunisia and Egypt which has been described as: monopolisation of political power human rights abuses lack of free elections restricted media freedoms rampant corruption and nepotism a huge gap between rich and poor with an insignificant middle class… Or Russia: corruption and government abuses.
