Just finished doing a Courier Mail survey on Queensland and one question it asks is:
Are you proud to be a Queenslander?
Yes
No
I’m not a Queenslander
This confronted me starkly. I’ve lived here for 12 years now and expect to live here for the rest of my life. Am I a Queenslander?
The answer ended up being Yes. An act of commitment to this place but also of letting go my earlier belongings in another state. It takes some doing but seems an important step to committing to place.
No cheers. No coming forward for a certificate. But it is done.
