It seems a shame that first up we view indigenous VERSUS food plants as a battle ground. Obviously indigenous plants do not have the “advantage” of many years of selective breeding for productivity but they do have the advantage of “knowing” the local climate and soils – if we can find any that used to be here! I would like part of the discussion to take on how we could integrate productive indigenous flora either in our streets and gardens or as part of managed bush areas.
We may find that symbiotic relationships with such plants inject new diversity into our local fauna at the same time.
