Moreton Bay Regional Council is now the 3rd largest council in Australia.
Bigger is not better as far as councils are concerned. Cr Brian Battersby in Division 10 hasn’t had his job made easier by amalgamation. People are complaining in letters to the local press that the energy centre has now moved to Redcliffe. This is the same problem that Brisbane City Council residents experience – rates move to the centre of power and leave fringe suburbs ignored.
It is very difficult for big councils to attend to the needs of local areas.
