Tongue

This exercise works well before speaking for example reading aloud for extended periods or delivering talks.

It also seems to work to make breathing work better – less throat-clearing coughs. Not sure why.

Spend about 10 minutes rolling tongue. Start by pressing tip of tongue against roof of mouth then running a wave of muscle contraction down it from the back to the tip. Work it slowly so that every bit is rolled awarely. Be aware of the sides of the tongue while rolling it.

After a while do some rolls of the tongue to each side in turn.

Then turn the sides of the tongue up to make it into a tube. Wiggle the tip while the sides are rolled up. Poke it out and keep wiggling.

Give it some more of the first kind of wave motion.

Open mouth wide and open the inside of the throat at the back wide. Encourage yawns to come and if they do allow them to develop fully.
