Here is a little more info. The chlorinator draws about 10 amps at 8 volts so it is 80 watts. Pool pumps range from about 3/4 to 1.5 kW. So you can save quite a bit by separating the chlorinator from the pump circuit and cutting down the pumping time.

Regarding the chlorinator electrodes these have high tech catalytic surfaces and are quite expensive being made of titanium. There are two kinds: flat plate and mesh. They both work about the same when clean but the flat plates are much easier to clean. Avoid mesh. They can be cleaned easily by lightly tapping. Avoid using acid as this will reduce the life of the catalytic surfaces.
