Dear {usertag:name}

Hello folks. I received the attached invitation to attend this Health Communities Forum. It seems very suitable for most of us interested in local health communities so I thought I’d share it in case any of you want to attend. The form to complete to return if you want to attend is included. Needs to be returned by 18th November.

 We went along to the two big health expos that were held in our area last weekend. They were both excellent but quite different in format. The one at Leslie Patrick Park at Arana Hills had Sweat Depot going which is very active indeed! I had a great conversation with a woman about the benefits of magnesium chloride baths and foot baths for the heart having just enjoyed one that morning.

The Health Expo at Great Western involved a lot of work by people like Dr Trish Baker and the professionals who have their rooms in the Great Western Super Centre. We listened to a talk Trish gave on skin cancer types and how to care for your skin. Most useful. Then the optometrist at EyeQ talked about the major things that can go wrong with our eyes and the value of having a retinal image done. He then spent much of the day doing retinal images for free. North West Community Health was there as was Anne Donaghy from Enoggera Respite Centre and a representative from the new Medicare Local for Metro North – they are based at Northlakes which seems a long way away!

There is also an eight week health program going on The Hills Uniting Church on Thursday mornings open to the community. It is in the Community Calendar.

The number of local instructors putting their local class times in the Community Calendar is steadily growing. Personally I find it very helpful to be able to look up quickly what is on where and go along or ring the instructor to find out more.

There is a big workshop coming up for the Community Consultative Committees in the Metro North region in November. I’ll give you feedback about what comes out of it.

Yesterday I went along for a free health assessment at Curves Keperra as part of a free trial week – guess how they got my name! At the Great Western Health Expo. Well It was a terrific workout and I now have a much clearer idea of which of my muscle groups need attention (most of them!) What are you doing to get fitter? We have a lot of excellent trainers and gyms and classes around our valley. The exercise gear in the George Willmore Park on Ferny Way in Ferny Hills is good too.

Keep well! Keep fit! Look after yourselves
