Dear {usertag:name}

Energy Group Meeting – Thursday 1/3/2012
Suggestions Please! – Energy Expo

I have been continuing to contact as many prospective exhibitors as possible to try and come up with a mix that is varied and interesting. There doesn’t seem much point in having a dozen competing Solar PV and/or Solar Hot Water companies. Anyway most of the solar companies and the major utilities I have contacted haven’t bothered to respond.

The following is a list of those who have expressed an interest in participating. However I should stress that it does not include a commitment to pay a specific amount (for commercial exhibitors) or to be available on any particular date (currently 22 April).

Commercial

  • The Solar Guys
  • Batteryworld Enoggera
  • Springers Solar
  • Propa Future Solutions (Gold Coast)
  • Segway
  • Electrobikes
  • Solahart
  • Trevor Berrill (and/or his publisher)

Non-commercial

  • Beyond Zero Emissions
  • Alternative Technology Association
  • Australian Electric Vehicle Association (two members so far with electric vehicles)
  • Sizzling Solar Systems (Stan Cadjeler – May only. or Dr Barb Ford)

This list seems to me a bit light to generate enough income from the commercial providers to cover the costs of promotion (banners newspaper ads letterbox drops) and public liability insurance. It seems important to budget for some substantial promotion as our greatest challenge has always been to engage public interest.

I would really appreciate more suggestions about specific exhibitors who would add value to this list or even categories of exhibitors I might not have thought of yet.

I hope you can come along to the meeting to see what new ideas we can come up with. If you can’t make it and have some suggestions please email them to me at expo@transitionthegrove.org.au.

Community Health Services

Dear {usertag:name}

I have just been going through the Transition The Grove website listings of local health services and NGOs to put together some suggestions from which representatives may be sought for the North West Community Health Centre Community Consultative Committee.

Some time ago I did a lot of work pulling together the local information under the Health menus but it is far from complete.

Could we treat getting the local Health services information links complete as a project for the Health Subgroup?  If we have a look at what is already there and think about what is missing that we also know about we can add it in. The details should be checked pretty carefully.

Anyone willing to get started can work on any bit independently and when you have something to add correct or update send the details through via a Contact Us email and it can be loaded straight on to the website.

I guarantee it is fun when you start to look systematically for this information and get to know what is right there before your eyes locally.

Welcome New Member – John Clark

Dear {usertag:name}

This e-newsletter is being sent to members of the Food & Gardening Environment Energy Water The Hands and Towards Zero Waste Subgroups.

Welcome John Clark as a new member who has signed up to these Subgroups. John comes to us from the Alternative Technologies Association and some of you will know him already as a regular attender at the Energy Subgroup meetings.

We’re busy preparing for this evening. So far we have people to lead the planning for displays and activities for the Ferny Grove Festival for Energy Health Food & Gardening Water Towards Zero Waste Transport.  We still need someone to coordinate the Environment display as a lot has been happening locally in that area.  It is looking good.

Do come along tonight. We’ll need ideas and energy.  The aim is to keep any volunteer work effort down to no more than one hour a week before the Festival for each of those involved. Hopefully that will be manageable for people and should be enough to get a very good job done to showcase our community involvement and projects and visions.

Ciao for now

Anne

Transition The Grove at Arana Ausfest

Dear {usertag:name}

Just a reminder that we will be having an information booth at Arana Ausfest 2010 at Arana Leagues Club on next Saturday 30 October.This is the event that was postponed due to bad weather on 9 October.

Our aim is to connect with as many people as possible in our community and to collect email addresses so that we can invite them to future events like film and discussion nights and the Energy Group meeting at Arana Library on 14 November.

We have set up our marquee to be solar powered. From previous experience this provides a couple of benefits.

  1. In enables is to use a lap-top computer to show some engaging and informative videos about Transition Towns.
  2. The solar panel is quite conspicuous and makes good conversation starter about renewable energy.

We have also purchased a couple of insulated pump-pots so that we can serve hot drinks to volunteers and visitors.

  • Setup is from 9:00am to 12:00 noon (We’ll start about 10:30am)
  • Entertainment goes from 12:30pm to 6:50pm
  • Bump-out is from 6:30pm
  • Fireworks will go from 6:50pm to 7:00pm

We would value your participation and hope to see you there. Any time you can manage will be appreciated.

Regards

Welcome new member – Sharon Robinson

Transition The Grove Banner
To view this message on-line please {readonline}Click here.{/readonline}.

Dear {usertag:name}

Welcome new member Sharon Robinson from Ferny Hills. Sharon has nominated her interest in the Food & Gardening Health Environment Local History The Head The Heart and Towards Zero Waste Subgroups.

Sharon has recently moved to Ferny Hills and attended an edible garden workshop and is interested to meet others and be involved in a community garden.

We’ve put her in touch with The Hills District Community Garden Group which is actively progressing two projects at the moment: the edible school garden at the Patricks Rd State School Preschool and a much bigger site in the park of Selkirk Crescent in Upper Kedron (BCC) which is progressing through the approval stages.

Our President John is working hard at the moment to do a complete new approach to Transition The Grove’s website. It will hopefully be available from after the New Year. The new approach is to have all the information on the website brought together by topic.  For example on the Homepage there will be buttons for Food & Gardening Energy Environment Health…   When you click on the Health button for example it will take you to all the content and site tools related to Health locally all in one place.

If you ever have suggestions about how to make the website more usable to you and the local community email them through to webmaster@transitionthegrove.org.au

We have an incredably competent helpful Webmaster! In fact he is rapidly establishing a reputation for building websites on a voluntary basis all over this community. Everyone does their bit to make the world work better in their own way and good websites are a way to network our community together better and have us all speaking more and more to each other like microrhyzal fungi!

If we don’t see you before Christmas happy Christmas.  If someone would like to take on organising a Christmas party or gettogether before then that would be great.

Cheers
