We went and saw this movie at Transition Annerley the other evening. It was screened widely in the US several years ago but not released in Australia. I’d been wanting to see it. It created a big stir in the US.
It is hard-hitting full of straight factual information about oil supply running out and what it will mean for us all.
Hard not to come away with a sense that we are sleep-walking here in Australia without appreciation of what is coming.
In the film it is strongly argued that US former President Bush and Cheney were definitely aware of Peak Oil as an issue.
The questions for us here are:
Do our elected leaders clearly understand the state of the world’s oil supplies and its implications for policy and planning here?
What are they planning and doing to prepare for Peak Oil?
Why for example was Campbell Newman (when he was Lord Mayor) committing Queensland to huge debt levels for road tunnels that will have only short-term use under Peak Oil scenarios while debt will be a serious liability under Peak Oil scenarios.
