Submission to the Parliament of Australia House of
Representatives Standing Committee on Health and
Ageing: Inquiry into Obesity in Australia
June 2008
Goal: To achieve your goal weight and to maintain it for two years
1. How Healthy Are You???
Qualify and quantify people who are in need change
Most people would like to know where they are – healthy or not?
For example we like to know our BMI (our body mass index) or our fitness range. How do we do this?
How do we measure whether we are fit or not?
If you talk to an elite athlete they know whether they are fit because they are monitoring it all the time.
But most people don’t know where they are because they have no reference points.
So the starting point is to have an assessment of your health and fitness.
Healthy Changes program – a body fat percentage analyser.
How Healthy Are You???
Get accurately assessed. Takes about 15-20 minutes per person.
[ul]Lifestyle

Respirator to work out oxygen volumes

Come out with a report which shows where you are healthwise.
2. Once you know where you’re starting you get people to help you change to facilitate/ educate/ assist you to get healthy.
Virtually one-on-one personal trainer/ support for each individual to get started on changing and managing their health program.
3. You need to be put into an environment when you know you are going to get some benefit out of it.
One of the best results I’ve seen is the anti-smoking campaign. In the early 1950s 75% of men smoked here. Now it is about the 28% mark. Coordinated campaigns.
