Sun exposure is such a burning issue around skin cancer.
What can we do?
Instal shade cloth. Stay in the shade. Grow trees and stay under them. Wear broad-brimmed hats and long sleeves & trousers made of material with good opacity to sun. Stay inside or under shelter during the hours of the day when the UV readings are high.
The Courier Mail has UV Readings in its Weather section every day and also the hours when the UV reading is high and you are advised to stay out of the sun.
Researchers tell us that if we use sunscreen we should put it on thickly. When they do their research to come up with the ratings for the sunscreen they use it thickly so if you use it thinly it is like having a much lower rating. They suggest putting it on once then reapplying it not long after. And reapplying regularly if you are out in the sun.
What about sun glasses too? Cataracts are linked to strong sunlight exposure.
The Queensland Cancer Council has a Queensland SunSmart Day. It was on 12 November in 2010.
