Transition The Grove Inc is keen to support locally sustainable activities that develop community resilience. We believe that a strong, self-reliant and resilient community has greater capacity to recover from external disruptions to:
• Water supply in drought and flood crises.
• Economic and financial stability
• Energy and transport fuel supplies
• Health (protection against chronic and infectious disease)
• Supply of fresh, healthy food
Our $1,000 annual resilience award is aimed at providing support and encouragement to local initiatives that make a significant contribution to the sustainability and resilience of our community.
This year we decided to support the activities of local sporting and recreation groups for the contribution they make to building a healthy resilient community. We recognise the recreational, social and health benefits of local sporting activities, especially when these are provided without dependence on external grant funding, high energy use, significant transport by air or road, advertising revenue from non-local businesses.
The 2015 Award was shared between 1st: Wahminda Grove Bushcare Group, 2nd: Northside Fitness, 3rd: U3A’s Strong People Stay Young.
