Doesn’t seem to be on Twitter

Howard Nielsen is mostly to be found in Samford Valley now. He willingly came ‘out to’ Ferny Grove to talk with locals about their concerns when the Ferny Grove Tavern was under threat (since realized) of demolition. He’s been a key initiator in the GreenStreets program that helps people calculate and reduce their carbon footprint and gives them encouragement to keep on task month by month.

The Greens meet in Samford – there isn’t a meeting held regularly on this side of the range as far as we are aware.

Howard was The Greens candidate for Ferny Grove at the last election. He has an on-going involvement in ‘green’ issues but we don’t know of any on-going involvement with the community on this side of the range between elections. If there is it would be good to know of it.

We made several contacts with The Greens to ask if they had a candidate for Ferny Grove yet (no at that stage) and asked them to let us know when they had a candidate. We haven’t been notified but have noticed that Howard Nielsen posters are going up locally.

In some areas there is almost an assumption that Transition Towns are in some way ‘synonymous with’ The Greens. That is not the case. Transition Towns is not a political movement but one focused on local resilience in the face of peak oil and climate change. While The Greens party is a strong voice for climate change issues some of its other policies are more difficult to match with a ‘local resilience’ focus – especially when you start from the perspective of our local community and local culture and local needs. As yet there isn’t any discussion here with The Greens about this that I have been able to find.
