This is the astonishing story of a 61-year-old woman who was dying from a bowel infection and whose life was saved by a transplant of faeces!

The woman had been treated with antibiotics for a pneumonia. Unfortunately while the antibiotics knocked off her pneumonia they also knocked off many of the good microbes in her gut.

This meant that a truly nasty bacterium Clostridium difficile could move in and take over.
