Professor Bell is the Assistant Dean of Research and Professor for School of Engineering Systems Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering QUT
His specific interests are building thermal performance Ceramics & ceramic processing Daylight in building Energy efficient building materials Energy efficient buildings integrated PV systems and thin film materials.
Professor Bell shall discuss the issues of local electricity generation future demands on electricity infrastructure. Buildings and zero carbon emissions the need for retrofitting for distributed energy systems and Eco-retrofitting and energy efficiency strategies.

Robert is a former Dairy farmer market gardener and founder of Brisbane-based Food Connect; a Social Business and advocacy organisation that provides marketing & distribution solutions for Ecological Family Farmers that also builds resilience for Australian Communities. by Robert Pekin Executive Director of Food Connect Foundation
He is on the world committee of URGENCI (the global organization for fostering Local Solidarity Partnerships between Producers and Consumers) Co-founder of the Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance founding member of Ecological Agriculture Australia and is on many Food Fibre & Agriculture working groups.
The Food Connect Foundation has pioneered a business replication system (Social Franchise) that is seeing the model spread semiautonomously throughout Australia. The Foundation is also setting up a Farmland Trust a New Farmers Pathway and a Consultancy organization (Think Food) specialising in Food Systems Assessments. Food Connect won the prestigious Banksia Peoples Choice Award and the QLD Gov Climate Smart Leadership Award in 2009
Robert will present a case for growing food locally opportunities for food production in urban retrofitting Brisbane Organic food growing and the importance of eco retrofitting for urban food in relation to food security.
The Melissa Menegazzo Prize in Positive Development will be presented by AGDF on behalf of BPIC.
