Today we met in Wahminda Park with morning tea by the lake and spent an hour and a half sharing together.

We talked about travel and some of the options (apart from train journeys to outback QLD) were joining international hospitality organisations such as Servas or Women Welcome Women Worldwide or WWOOFers (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) or Friendship Force. This way even if you don’t travel yourself the world comes to your door sharing the culture and stories from everywhere.

We also reflected on how our ancestors travelled almost not at all. They worked and married within a 5 mile radius. Generation after generation after generation they wouldn’t move even a county away. The extremely rare souls who did daring things like migrate to Australia were extraordinary human beings.

Another ‘travel’ while staying home tool is to use Google Earth then explore down streets with the little ‘man’. I’ve now visited some places my ancestors lived without making the trip so far away.

The idea of a journey was very meaningful. Then someone shared the importance of having 5 networks in our lives (such as family church old school mates a team a group of friends who know and keep close touch a U3A group…). We all shared which groups we had in our lives and it was a profound sharing.

A beautiful morning the magpies sang and got their worms and the ducks pottered around near the water.
