Quite a few locals are interested in wooden boats.

Some build them in their sheds.
Some design them using computer software. Some designs re for sale.

There is local expertise in building ‘quick and dirty’ boats made of plywood using the ‘stitch and glue’ method. This can be a great starter experience to learn how quickly and easily you can make a boat.

Some locals are members of the Wooden Boat Association of Queensland and participate in regular messabouts and regattas with this group but it has to be said they don’t go on the water in The Grove. The nearest sailing is on Lake Samsonvale. Wivenhoe is also a great sailing venue. Rivers like Breakfast Creek Brisbane River North Pine River and other creeks and rivers are great for putting in putt-putts canoes or small boats.

Messing about in boats has to e one of the great pasttimes. A suggestion that time spent like this doesn’t come out of your lifetime! Certainly we’ve seen some locals live a lot longer than they otherwise might have had while they built and messed about in little wooden boats.
