7:30am and all the birds were out in force. Apart from the sheer beauty of this strip of water buried behind McGregor Way Dornoch Crt & Pentland Cl off McAlroy Rd in Ferny Grove it attracts a phenomenal amount of wildlife.

There were pied cormorant dusky moorhen (3) white-faced heron (2) Pacific black duck (14) willy wagtail (2) little black cormorant spangled drongo sulphur crested cockatoo (lots) currawong brush turkey magpie lark crow noisy minor masked lapwing butcherbird ‘Bob Hawke’ pigeon.

The lagoon is covered by a water weed we took a sample of and are trying to identify (it is common). It looks like it needs to be ‘dealt with’.

The lagoon has quite a few places to sit and contemplate.

There is a large stormwater management system.

At the end of Pentland Close there is a children’s playground.

The lagoon has a concrete walking/ cycling track down one side returning through the neighbouring street.

Signs warn cyclists to dismount; and that a Floodway: Take care Parents should see that children do not use this area on rainy days.

It was so pleasant wandering along by the lagoon looking at the birds and the environment we thought another walk by a local water feature would be well worthwhile. Enoggera Reservoir is proposed – it is where much of our water supply comes from.
