This week’s (7 May to 13 May) Queensland Indicator is 1.419 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions the breakdown is as follows:

In tonnes:

Electricity from coal:                       0.815 million; 57.4%

Natural gas-fired electricity:        0.114 million; 8.1%

Petroleum:                                         0.490 million; 34.5%

This week

This week Queensland’s energy emissions fell by 0.8% or 12000 tonnes due to a decrease in emissions from gas.

Emissions sources

Emissions from coal-fired electricity which accounted for 88% of Queensland’s generation grew by 1.2% or 10000 tonnes.

Emissions from gas fell by 15% or 20000 tonnes.

Emissions from petroleum fell by 0.4% or 2000 tonnes.

Demand & Import/Export

Electricity demand fell by 0.8%.

Queensland exported 9.6% of its power generated to other states compared to 10% last week.

Comparisons

This week’s Indicator is 3.2% lower than the same week in 2009 and total emissions to this stage of 2010 are 0.8% lower than the similar stage last year.

This week’s Indicator is 90% above the average equivalent 1990 weekly emissions and 23% above the equivalent 2000 weekly average.
