Reach Out Community and Family Care feeds about 100 local families through their Everton Park Foodbank distribution centre. These are families who need a hand to make ends meet. They rely on access to free or cheap food to feed themselves and their children.
Overeating is talked about a lot and it is very visible. Hunger is silent not talked about.
Many families are only a pay cheque or two away from hunger or homelessness.
Foodbank needs 40 tonnes of food each day to meet the demand from 10% of QLD’s population.
