This Health Forum attempts to identify things we can do locally to improve our health without relying on pharmaceuticals manufactured overseas or huge (energy-intense) hospital systems.

We don’t expect to replace these things just to uncover what can be done locally.

Two surprising outcomes of this search are:

[ol]How much can be done locally
How dangerous some of the non-local stuff is that we’d avoid if we stuck strictly local.[/ol]

I came across one this week on the dangers of nanoparticles. Apparently they can disrupt our heart rhythms and interfere with the electrical activity in our bodies.

Atrial fibrulation (abnormal heart rhythm) had already come to our attention as a leading cause of lethal strokes so we are pretty keen to know how to avoid it happening.

How can we avoid nanoparticles? Well apparently white reflective titanium dioxide nanoparticles are in paints and sunscreens and beauty products such as foundation screens. Carbon black (more nanoparticles) is used in plastics car tyres and dyes for printers and photocopiers.

Carbon black spark-generated carbon titanium dioxide and silicon dioxide all produce a 15% rise in irregular heartbeats (with presumably a rise in the risk of lethal strokes).
