This morning a doctor came to talk to us about the Federal Government’s health reform initiatives and how they might play out locally for us.
What were being called ‘Primary Health Care Organisations’ are now being called “Medicare Locals”.
Medicare Locals are supposed to:
[ul]fill the gaps
they are funded by Federal Government
they are able to ask for tenders for stuff not presently done[/ul]
Primary health care is going out of State control.
There is an organisation called GPPartners (www.gppartners.com.au) which is the general practice division for the whole of North Brisbane (which includes us). They are looking at being a Medicare Local.
We will be talking to them about what this means for local primary health care in The Grove.
