Target 100 is an initiative by Australian cattle and sheep farmers along with the broader industry to deliver sustainable cattle and sheep farming by 2020.

It’s our commitment to take positive action both big and small to continually improve the way we operate and improve our sustainability throughout the red meat supply chain.

We are setting a big goal and working together to ensure we achieve it. As caretakers of the land we are committed to leaving it in better shape than when we found it – and we know we can improve efficiency and reduce the resources we use.

We have outlined 100 research development and extension initiatives that we fund through our industry bodies to continually improve our sustainability.

Apart from harnessing the latest technology and science to reduce our footprint it’s also about sharing good ideas celebrating successes and providing a focal point for environmental social and ethical farming action to ensure a sustainable food source

Beyond the 100 initiatives
Target 100 is more than the 100 research development and extension programs. It is about us showing you how previous research programs have been used practically on farm to improve our environmental social and economic performance. We want to share with you what’s going on every day of the year on our farms and help connect you with how your food is produced.

To do this we would like you to take some time to have a look at our case studies join in a forum and be part of the conversation.

As caretakers of almost half of Australia’s landmass we know firsthand the importance of a healthy environment – our livelihoods and that of our future generations depend on it.

Sustainability isn’t a new thing for us as a whole the Australian cattle and sheep industry has been investing in environmental research and development for many years. And we continue to invest more than $13 million each year in research and development to reduce the industry’s environmental impact through improving farming practices.

Join the conversation
We want to create an open discussion between livestock farmers and the community. We want to hear your concerns thoughts and suggestions on how we can continue to produce quality food in an environmentally socially and economically sustainable way.

If you have questions about red meat and the environment how your food is produced or want to hear from a farm about what they do post something in one of our forums and find out more.

If you’re a livestock farmer with a sustainable story to tell help promote your industry by uploading a mini-case study to show what you are doing on your farm and join in a discussion forum. Given the isolation between rural and urban Australia Target 100 gives all livestock farmers the chance to engage with the community and vice versa.

Who is driving Target 100?
Australian cattle and sheep farmers from across Australia are the driving force behind Target 100 through our industry representative bodies Cattle Council of Australia Sheepmeat Council of Australia Australian Meat Industry Council Australian Lot Feeders Association Australian Meat Processing Corporation and service provider Meat & Livestock Australia – with a commitment to a more sustainable industry.
