Montessori education is offered at Grovely State School.
It is about offering parents more choice in how their children are educated in state schools.
Montessori offers a different teaching philosophy with a focus on encouraging independence and fostering a love of learning to build self-confidence discipline and positive social behaviour.
The Montessori class is a multi-age environment on a three-year cycle rather than distinct year level classes.
There are two existing independent Montessori schools in Queensland one in Caboolture and one in Fig Tree Pocket.
This is the first time Montessori has been offered within a Queensland state school.
The initial single-stream class is fully integrated into Grovely State School and it is hoped the program will grow in coming years.
Montessori stream students are still be very much a part of the school community.
Montessori aimed to instil a commitment to lifelong learning in students.
The class is accommodated within existing school buildings at Grovely State School.
