A co-generation power plant at The Prince Charles Hospital
is satisfying up to 70% of the hospital’s daily average energy requirements. It is estimated that the plant will operate with an electrical output of 34 800 kWh. The estimated cost saving of electricity is $1223667 a year together with a reduction of 6906 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year.

Investigations are now underway to determine if the remaining heat energy available can be used to produce chilled water for air conditioning.
