Splendid ideas – gardening very good for a healthy lifestyle for all the reasons Geron mentions. Going on the lessons from villages in Okinawa with dozens of people in the 100+ age range – healthy eating is key (what can we do to promote that? community gardens to grow and promote veggies perhaps? how to bring cost of good food below cost of junk food? (though I’m always amazed at just how cheap a kilo of carrots are these days…brilliant! shame about the rest though) but so too is an active community – the oldies of Okinawa meet and support each other all the time. We’ve got some great community groups here in Ferny Grove but supporting and growing these would seem to be one way of keeping healthy locally.
