Basically if we want to swim safe in The Grove we are talking about pool safety.

But since some of us do travel to the sea and surf here are the RACQ’s suggestions for surf safety:

[ul]The flagged section of the beach is the safest
Always try to swim with a friend if possible
If you get into trouble stay calm. Raise your arms to signal for help float and try to conserve energy
Never try to swim against a rip. Float with the current or swim parallel to the beach
Don’t swim at night. There is an increased risk of rips deep water gutters and shark activity
In north QLD avoid jellyfish stings by swimming inside stinger nets and wear protective clothing.[/ul]
