Class 3 Pest Declared

The garden plant Kahili Ginger has been declared a Class 3 pest by the DPI because of its demonstrated potential to spread widely and to form single species stands in bushland and rainforest. The species is native to the foothills of the Himalayas and is beginning to reach alarming proportions in our native reserves. The plant has yellow flowers and yields orange fruit. Two other ginger species: Yellow Ginger and White
Ginger have also been declared illegal to buy or trade in Queensland.
