Dear {usertag:name}

This e-newsletter is being sent to all members of Transition The Grove Inc.

How often do we ask ourselves about the future ten twenty thirty years from now?

How do we start preparing now for a future here that will preserve the best address challenges constructively and craft the community we desire?

Now seems to be the time to be asking and thinking about these sorts of questions.

The Queensland 30-year plan is asking Queenslanders to think about long-term planning. After a Summit in Mackay 6 questions are being put forward to Queenslanders for community discussion to stimulate us to develop a long-term community vision together. Your local MP (for most of us this will be Dale Shuttleworth of the Ferny Grove electorate) is currently putting together a steering group to enable the community discussion locally. If you would be able to contribute in a forward-thinking way I encourage you to contact Dale’s office. The steering group will be meeting on the 3rd Thursday evenings of the month.

Another opportunity to contribute your thinking is the Hillbrook Sustainability Day on Saturday 1st June from 10am to 4pm at Hillbrook Anglican School 45 Hurdcotte St Enoggera.  The Transition Towns Local Futures and Sustainable Communities groups from the Metro North West Region of Brisbane will have a marquee there with a World Cafe where you can join small tables to discuss questions concerning our community futures and sustainability. If you are able to come along there’ll be people there from Transition The Grove Transition The Gap St John’s Wood Sustainability Transition Enoggera and Samford Futures to join in discussion with. If you are able to take on a role such as leading a discussion at one of the cafe tables or taking notes that would help too.

The questions for the Hillbrook Sustainability Day (still in draft so if you have ideas for improving the questions that would be welcomed) are:

  • What suburb do you live in and how long have you lived there?
  • What do you think are the valuable strengths and resources of the local region where you live (community environment social/cultural….) that you want to have preserved into the future?
  • Our local communities aren’t perfect! What do you think needs addressing to improve your local region and whose responsibility should it be to do something about it?
  • How do you see global megatrends affecting your local community and what  do you think we should be starting to do now to address them?
  • What ideas or vision do you have for your local region or community for the future?
  • What skills and networks do you have that could assist in getting broad community participation in thinking about our community’s long-term future?

Locals who join Transition Towns are among the more forward-thinking people in our communities. There is a need to have your input and thinking in local planning discussions for our community future. We are only a phone call away so if you would like to talk some more about these things call to start the conversation: 3851 1016.

Warm regards
