Just back from visiting an inventive friend in Perth always experimenting. He invented the solar tracker years ago.

He has set his swimming pool filter and chlorinator up in a configuration that uses much less power than the standard configuration.

It seems so simple I think even I can do it.

The idea is to remove the chlorinator from the tube it is in integrated into the filter pump system.

The filter pump takes a lot of power to pump. Basically what it is doing is removing leaves and rubbish from the pool. This needs 1-2 hours a day and doesn’t need to vary with the time of year.

The chlorinator needs to operate for a lot more hours a day as summer months come on but it only needs a very small amount of power to operate. Hence it is best separate from the pool pump.

My friend had his chlorinator wired to an 80watt solar panel (so low power) and set into a polystyrene kids kick board floating around in the pool. Presumably a low voltage system.
