These are things you can do locally without resorting to high-tech approaches or imported products.

[ul]Use the bedroom for sleep (and perhaps love-making) only
Avoid caffeine for several hours before bedtime
Avoid exercise for several hours before bedtime
Avoid alcohol as this promotes waking early
Go to bed only when drowsy and rise at a fixed time
If you can’t get to sleep within 15 minutes hop up and do something non-stimulating like reading a bood in dim light in another room (do not watch TV or surf the Internet)[/ul]

Two things we do that work really well for us are:
[ul]lay in bed and do physical meditations – internal body awareness quiet stretching tighten and relax muscles tiny movements twitches to let go tension
regard being awake as a sign of being ok to hop up and do something else – don’t have to go to sleep just because it is night[/ul]
