You may have heard about the current shale gas boom sweeping the world.

But have you heard about what some energy analysts are now calling the ‘Bakken Shale south’. Approximately 80 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of Australian shale gas

That’s equivalent to 12.8 billion barrels of oil.

Even if drillers only manage to extract a quarter of that amount it would still be three times Australia’s current oil reserve of 1.5 billion barrels.
