Lots of birds out at dusk this evening. We enjoyed the pairs feeding on grassed areas:

2 Pacific black ducks
2 maned wood ducks
1 masked lapwing (plover)
2 magpies

Looking up lapwings (easily recognisable with their yellow facial wattles) I find there are two races of them: Vanellus miles and Vanellus novaehollandiae. The former has a black cap stopping on the head. The latter has a black cap continuing on down the back of its neck. Must watch more closely in future.
