Read recently that medical researchers have been testing bitter inhalants (non-toxic ones) and they are proving much more effective for controlling asthma than the best asthma pharmaceuticals. They’re looking at substances like quinine. Inhaled not swallowed.

I’m eyeing off the garden – aloe vera is certainly bitter. So is green pawpaw skin. Are they toxic? I’ve researched on the web and aloe vera sap (the yellow ooze just under the green skin) is an irritant (some but not most claim it can be dangerously toxic). I’m thinking of trying inhaling it mixed in a steam bath (hot water in a basin with some of the aloe vero put through a blender and mixed in the boiling water). I’m usually happy to be a guinea pig but I’m approaching this warily because inhaling something is a pretty direct and total way to get it into your system. Don’t want to damage myself. Anyway if I do the experiment I’ll share the outcome.
