Black bowel syndrome is where a section of the intestine has lost its nerve connection and it goes black and is dying. It doesn’t squeeze and pull material along the bowel through that section so the material sits there and rots.

It is treated with surgery cutting out the dead bit but it is an operation that has a lot of problems.

The guest speaker on the Health Report talked about something to do with yoghurt with calcium but without vitamin D.

I missed it and went to the www.abc.net.au/rn/healthreport site but the transcript hadn’t been loaded up yet. I’ll try to remember to look for it in a few days.

I also googled ‘black bowel syndrome’ and couldn’t find it.
