Ross McKinnon curator at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens gives these tips in the BCC’s Living in Brisbane newsletter for September:

Spring is the best time to start planting seeds or seedlings (eggplant snow peas sweet corn zucchinis will flourish if you plant now)

If you don’t have a vege patch plant the seeds in a polystyrene box and water and mulch well

Powdered or liquid lime can sweeten the soil for veges but not all plants love it (including sweet potatoes and tomatoes). Lightly lime plants such as carrots and pumpkins and go heavy on asparagus onion and spinach.
