I’ve just been over to St William’s School Hall to the Ryan Seniors’ Expo put on by Jane Prentice Federal Member for Ryan.
The Hon Bronwyn Bishop Shadow Minister for Aging opened it with a talk followed by other talks.

Some highlights of Bronwyn’s talk:

Q. What is a senior?
A. A senior is someone who is over fifty. 40% of voters are seniors.

A big issue seniors face is that their voice disappears they disappear and they suffer discrimination.

She is setting out to make it as unacceptable to be ageist as it is to be racist or sexist.

Three out of five people who retire early do so involuntarily. Anyone over the age of 45 who is out of work finds it difficlut to get back into the workforce.

Only 8% of people over age 70 will ever need residential care.
12% will need services at home. The rest will have a jolly good time.

She wants to see long-term (30 year) government-backed tradeable bonds brought in for seniors to invest in.

Wants people judged by their competency not by how old they are.

If you want productivity rises you might do well to employ seniors! It worked in Germany.
