We had a great morning at Northey Street City Farm. Couldn’t tear them away.

Bob Mud was great talking about how to paint in ochres make papier mache and make a Chinese stove and to make pottery without a kiln. He played on the pan pipes and flutes he had made.

We had a long chat about chook breeds and toured around the gardens very impressed by the huge piles of soil and mulch. Four of us had a roll of the huge compost tumblers. The gardens are looking great.

In the nursery we watched a volunteer pot up seeds and she talked about how to make the seed mix.

I bought some kale seedlings a chia seedling Ceylon spinach and chamomile.

We had a cuppa in the Chai area. There were a lot of school tours going through. We enjoyed it so much we were there nearly four hours!

We’ve all decided to start collecting clay and Bob Mud is going to come and show us how to make Chinese stoves.

We are also interested in building a greenhouse for seed-raising like the one they have there made out of concrete reinforcing mesh that goes in concrete covered in green mesh.

Back at the Arana Library for a ‘proper’ class next week!
