Australia is getting fatter very fast. If it was an Olympic swimming race we’d be looking at the world’s bronze medal – we’re coming 3rd after the US (top) and Britain (2nd top for men) and New Zealand (2nd top for women) in how fast we’re getting obese. Not a medal we want to win.

The Lancet has average BMI for Australian men rising from 24.9 in 1980 to 27.6 in 2008; and for women from 23.6 to 26.9.

Tackling obesity is a very urgent issue.
