I’m reading Jonathan Safron Foer’s ‘Eating Animals’ and just up to the chapter on methods of farming cattle. If the previous chapters are anything to go by it’ll be eye-popping stomach-churning information. Certainly provide cause to re-think what I’m looking at when shopping for meat.
When purchasing I’d definitely like to be able to choose meat butchered from grass-fed (ie; humanely reared) cattle. Does Transition the Grove have access to information about which butchers stock this locally?
It’s so important that we exert influence through our purchasing decisions even if this means paying a bit more for (and possibly eating less of) meat that comes from animals that are free to graze and not cramped unnaturally in pens. Purchasing beef from feed-lot cattle is tacit approval (albeit unwitting at times) of a cruel method of farming.
