Business leaders not always honest

Qantas chairman Leigh Clifford told a recent forum in Melbourne that he considered industrial relations the biggest issue confronting business saying if not properly addressed it could mean “armageddon” for the economy.

These are the same sorts of leaders who are saying that a price on carbon will destroy them.

They are similar to the big mining magnates who scream blue murder and pour millions into advertising against government policy when a mining tax is proposed to keep some of the megaprofits from plundering our mining resources in Australia instead of all flowing out to foreign capitalists.

Do I sound like I don’t have sympathy with them?

They’re not all that remote from us are they? Do you have superannuation? Do you have shares? Does the value of your superannuation and shares drive your reasoning on big national policy matters like our workforce legislation our policies to make industry pay for its carbon pollution our nation’s part in making mining profitable for all Australians?

Maybe the least we can do is declare we have a vested interest in these debates when we do.
